GREEN AND YOU Are you confused about going green? There is so much hype out there about it, that you may not know what to recycle, what to keep or even what to eat. To use plastic or not and what types are okay? Should you compost or not? I am here to help you and learn along with you. I truly believe it is important to go green, but how green? If you can do something every day to help our planet we are that much farther ahead. Even if you start by doing something once a week you are helping our planet in your own way. Here are three tips: Keep reusable shopping bags in your car, so they are there when you need a quick trip to the grocery store or have a large order. There are many available these days with such attractive designs. Keep your tap water to a pencil’s width when washing your hands or turn it off when brushing your teeth. I learned this as a child while visiting a friend's farm...and still practise it today; I guess they were right all those years ago. Use cold water when doing laundry it will save energy, money and still keep your clothes looking bright. Also, be sure to use bleach and phosphate-free detergent; try to avoid SLS too! I choose to go green to help the planet, our future and my family. Recently there has been an e-mail going around about lead in lipstick. This is an issue that has been discussed now for quite sometime. So, is there really lead in lipstick or not? Yes, it has been found in many brands. I have included a copy below of the recent e-mail that has been circulating. Now, this may not concern you or you may wonder: How much lead is really in my lipstick? Is it enough to harm me or my family? Let’s think about this for a minute… Do you really want even a minute amount in your lipstick? Personally, I do NOT! People may not understand that even if it is a small amount found in your lipstick, this amount builds up overtime. Please be aware that lead can actually lead to cancer! Remember that although it might be a minute amount found in your lipstick, this can slowly, gradually lead to many types of autoimmune diseases. Please be aware that there are other options. You are not limited to wearing lipstick with lead, unless of course you choose to do so and the idea of lipstick containing lead does not bother you… I can help as far as finding places to purchase cosmetics that do NOT contain lead. Please feel free to ask… For your information, I have listed two websites with more details about lead found in lipstick.
